About the Program
The Criminology Qualification Year is a pathway into the Criminology program at York. It offers a focused first year of study with all the courses you will need to be considered for second year entry to the Criminology program. This option is ideal if you don’t meet direct entry requirements but want to study Criminology. By successfully completing 24 credits, including Criminology Qualification Year required courses, with a final cumulative GPA of 5.0 (C+) and a minimum grade of B in AP/SOSC 1650 6.00 Introduction to Criminology, you will be able to join the Criminology program in second year. If you are not successful in completing the Criminology Qualification Year requirements, the credits you earned in first year will allow you to pursue other programs, such as Human Rights & Equity Studies.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Gain real-world experience, build marketable skills and apply theories learned in the classroom through Experiential Education (EE) at York. These hands-on learning experiences can occur within a course, community or work/professional setting and include opportunities such as co-op, internships, practicums, placements, capstone projects, field courses, community-based research or case competitions that happen in a class. During your degree, you will deepen the learning objectives of a course or program, apply knowledge and be better prepared for the job market after graduation.
