About the Program
Human Rights & Equity Studies prepares you for the growing field of institutionalized equity and social justice responses to the challenges presented by an increasing fragmented and polarized world. In this program, you’ll examine the principles of human rights, the causes and impact of human rights violations, and efforts to redress past atrocities. The program examines topics such as social and economic inequality, freedom of expression and access to education and healthcare, both in Canada and globally. Through critical thinking and real-world applications, you’ll learn how to promote equity and create meaningful change. If you’re interested in social justice, advocacy or policy, this program prepares you for a wide range of impactful careers.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Human Rights & Equity Studies offers hands-on learning through community engagement and applied coursework. You’ll gain practical experience in a fourth-year placement course, working with organizations such as human rights commissions, school boards and non-profits. Courses often include guest speakers and collaborations with external agencies, providing insight into real-world issues and career pathways available to you after graduation. Experiential learning is integrated throughout the program, helping you apply theory in meaningful contexts. Through optional paid co-op opportunities and more, you’ll build strong research, communication and advocacy skills and graduate prepared for careers that promote equity and social justice.
