About the Program
Interdisciplinary Social Science explores complex social issues from multiple perspectives. Critically analyze historical and contemporary issues related to social and political thought, social justice and diversity, sustainability and the environment, social exclusion and identity, and diaspora and global development. The program helps you understand how social systems work and how change happens. You’ll build strong skills in critical thinking, research and communication, preparing you to analyze real-world challenges. If you’re interested in understanding society and making a difference, this program offers a flexible and broad-based approach to social science.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Interdisciplinary Social Science offers hands-on learning through York’s Experiential Education (EE) opportunities. You’ll gain real-world experience by applying ideas from multiple disciplines across diverse educational settings. These experiences can take place in the classroom, workplaces or community settings, helping you explore different fields while building advanced reading and critical thinking skills. Optional paid co-op provides career experience and networking opportunities. Through Interdisciplinary Social Science, you’ll deepen your understanding, apply theory to real-world challenges and graduate with the analytical, research and communication skills needed for a wide range of careers.
