About the Program
Science, Technology and Society studies the relationship between science and our society. Complex issues face our world today, so ST&S uses interdisciplinary approaches to research topics like digital surveillance, environmental degradation, the impact of AI, sustainable food production, and many more.
York is the only place in Canada that offers ST&S within a Faculty of Science. This degree combines STEM knowledge with tools from the humanities to develop solutions to societal issues. Our aim is to educate future scientists, politicians, and others to integrate technical competence with human values and social responsibility.
You can choose to major in ST&S with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts, or enhance another York Science degree with an ST&S minor. We have three Minor Options: Life Sciences and Society, Technology, Innovation and Society, and Earth, Sustainability and Society.
