About the Program

Ready to bring your creative vision to life? The Visual Arts – Studio program at York University lets you explore diverse artistic mediums, from painting and sculpture to photography and print media.

After a common first year, you can specialize in one or more areas. You’ll work closely with renowned artists in small classes and create in some of Canada’s top arts creation facilities, including the country’s largest university sculpture studio, Canada’s first Digital Sculpture Laboratory, professional photography and printmaking studios, and dedicated painting and drawing studios.

Exhibit your work in student-run galleries and Toronto spaces, build a strong portfolio through critiques and exhibitions, and gain practical skills in grant writing, contracts, exhibition proposals, marketing and more.

You’ll also have an opportunity to work alongside practicing artists through visiting artist residencies, contribute to public art projects across the city and collaborate on projects with students from other creative fields. By graduation, you’ll have a strong portfolio, extensive exhibition experience and the skills to present your work in professional arts settings.
