About the Program

Gain practical, hands-on experience in specialized areas of production and design, including wardrobe, carpentry, theatre technology, set and costume design, production management and stage management. Through labs, workshops and production practicums, you’ll work with scenic carpentry, props, scenic art, costuming, lighting, sound and video for live performance.

As you progress, you can combine specializations in design, construction and management while taking on greater creative, technical and leadership responsibilities.

You’ll learn from industry professionals in state-of-the-art facilities, build a strong portfolio and make connections in Toronto’s theatre, film and television community. Graduates leave with professional-level experience and the confidence to pursue careers as designers, producers, technicians, stage managers and production managers across theatre, film, live events and beyond.

                                                        Applied Learning Opportunities

                                                        Learn directly from industry professionals in state-of-the-art facilities, build connections in Canada’s biggest theatre, film and television hub, and graduate ready to bring productions to life on any stage or screen. From your first year, you’ll work on full-scale Theatre@York productions, collaborating with upper-year students, leading crews and gaining experience in a professional production environment. As you progress, you’ll take on specialized roles in set, costume, lighting, sound, video, design, stage management and production management. You’ll also earn professional certification for working at heights and operating lifts in Ontario. By graduation, you’ll have a strong portfolio, advanced creative and technical skills, and extensive hands-on experience across theatre, film, television and live events.
