About the Program
Learn the art of filmmaking from every angle, whether it’s directing, cinematography, editing or sound design. Dive into the world of storytelling, creating projects that inspire, entertain and make a difference. Channel your creativity through hands-on technical practice and build your portfolio with mentorship from award-winning professionals. Utilize industry-standard production and post-production facilities to showcase your films at exhibitions, competitions and showcases.
From day one, you’ll create original films, work in crews and gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment in on-campus facilities and at the York U Motion Media Studio at Cinespace Studios, one of Toronto’s major film and television production hubs. Small classes and mentorship from internationally recognized faculty give you space to experiment, collaborate and build lasting creative networks.

Applied Learning Opportunities
You’ll create original productions in collaborative crews, gaining experience in directing, cinematography, editing, sound and production. Industry-standard equipment and professional filmmaking spaces, including the York U Motion Media Studio at Cinespace Studios, give you the tools to work at a professional level. Mentorship from active filmmakers connects you to Toronto’s film and television industry, while annual showcases such as Finish Line and CineSiege bring your work to public audiences. Before graduating, students have had films selected and professional work recognized by leading festivals and awards, including TIFF and the Canadian Screen Awards.
